GAMEWEEK 24- BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION vs CHELSEA|FANTASY FOOTBALL PREVIEW

BHA VS CHE: The Premier League debutants take on the 4-time champions in the opener of the game week 24. The defending champions had a series of draws before winning their FA cup tie against Norwich City in a penalty shootout. Brighton under Chris Hughton have faired decently so far in the league but are only 3 points away from the relegation zone. Brighton and Chelsea meet for only the 10th time with the latter winning 7 of their previous meetings in all competitions.

The difference between Everton who are placed 9th on the league table and Stoke City at 18th is a mere 7 points. That’s how topsy-turvy the results have been. Brighton are currently placed 16th on the table. If they engineer 3 points off this fixture and if the other games work in their favour they’ll move up the table to 11th.

PREVIOUS GAMES IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE: Chelsea at home drew against Leicester. Game 23 being their 5th draw of the season. Their 3rd in the last 5.

Brighton were humbled at the Hawthorns in a 2-0 defeat. However, they’ve only lost two games at home.

STATS:

  • Chelsea have won all their English League matches against Brighton. If they win this game only one team will have a better 100% record against an opponent since the inception of the English League. Wimbledon beat Bournemouth 8 times out of eight.
  • In their last 12 Premier League games, Brighton have earned only 8 points. A solitary win, 5 draws and 6 defeats. At home though, Brighton have lost just one of their last 10. Winning 3 and finishing level in 6 games.
  • The Blues have won 44 of their 75 away games against newly promoted sides in the Premier League. Only Arsenal have a finer record with 45 wins. Chelsea’s last defeat in such a fixture was in March 2014 at Crystal Palace. They’ve won nine and have drawn two since.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR:

GLENN MURRAY(BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION): Brighton have scored only 17 goals this season and Glenn Murray has scored 35% of them. With 6 goals in 21 games, the former Bournemouth and Crystal Palace man has been the prime match winner for Brighton. Against the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, Murray has an arduous task of handing The Seagulls an advantage. If Brighton manage to play the long ball and if the likes of Pascal Gross manage to deliver a quality ball in the final third, Glenn Murray in his current form will almost certainly score. The striker will be the man to watch out for.

2017/18 SEASON: Minutes Played: 1233, Goals: 6, Shots on Target: 13, Shooting accuracy: 50%

MARCOS ALONSO(CHELSEA): The former Real Madrid starlet has been a remarkable addition to the blues squad. The Chelsea defender was involved in 9 goals in 31 games last season, scoring 6 and making 3. This season, he’s already matched last year’s goals tally and has scored some pivotal goals for the defending champions. He’s also scored some scorchers via free kicks. Alonso is Chelsea’s main man and also the first name on Antonio Cont’s team sheet. Against Brighton, with his stern defending and effective attacking abilities, he’ll be the man to watch out for.

2017/18 SEASON: Minutes Played: 1979, Goals: 6, Assists: 1, Clean sheets: 11, Tackles: 39.

EXPECTED PLAYING XI:

Brighton and Hove Albion: Matthew Ryan(gk), Lewis Dunk, Bruno Saltor, Shane Duffy, Markus Suttner, Dale Stephens, Davy Propper, Anthony Knockaert, Pascal Gross, Solly March, Glenn Murray

Chelsea: Thibaut Courtois(gk), Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, N’golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Victor Moses, Eden Hazard, Willian.

WHO WILL WIN?: Chelsea are competing for a spot in the Champions League and after a succession of draws will look to win a positive 3. Brighton have a decent record at home but Chris Hughton is winless in seven matches against Chelsea in all competitions (Draw 2, Lost 5), losing each of the last five. The reverse fixture between these two sides saw Chelsea getting the better of Brighton 2-0 at the Stamford Bridge and are favourites to win the away game as well.
