GAME WEEK 18 – ARSENAL VS NEWCASTLE UNITED- PREVIEW, DREAM 11

ARS v NEW PREVIEW: Arsenal last won the Premier League title in 2003/04. They’ve always been sturdy contenders but in the last two years, as the teams have improved significantly, Arsenal have remained static. Since Tottenham and Manchester City have had a revamp, six teams now contest for the top spot. Arsene Wenger in the midweek fixture against WestHam left out Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac. A ploy, that failed, yet again, as the gunners dropped 2 more points. With a mere 30 points after 17 games, they are 7th on the league table behind Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

Newcastle United were off to a decent start in the first quarter of the season. In the first 9, the Rafael Benitez managed side won 4 and drew 3. Since then, they’ve hit a wall. In the next 8 games, they’ve managed only one point, finishing second best in 7 games. Travelling to the Emirates and challenging the Gunners will be an uphill task for the Magpies and with their current form, they’re likely to hover around the relegation zone.

HEAD-TO-HEAD: Arsenal have won each of their last nine Premier League games against Newcastle. They’ve scored 22 and conceded just 6 in this period. Newcastle United last won a game at The Emirates in November 2010.

IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE: Played 44, Ars: 25, New: 9, Draw: 10.

FACTS: Rafael Benitez has never won away at Arsenal in the Premier League in six attempts (W0 D2 L4).

Olivier Giroud has scored 8 Premier League goals against Newcastle. His highest against any club in the premier league. At the Emirates, he’s been involved in 6 goals in 4 games. Scoring 5 and setting one up.

As a substitute, Olivier Giroud has scored 10 goals in 571 minutes – 57 minutes per goal.

PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR ARS v NEW:

Mesut Ozil(Arsenal): Ozil has featured in 130 games for Arsenal in 4 years. In this period he’s been involved in 72 goals(scored 25 and made 47). The German international is a master at threading minuscule gaps and can pick passes which can cut defences into halves.

In 2017/18: Minutes played: 1100, Goals scored: 2, Assists: 5

Dwight Gayle(Newcastle United): Gayle has found the back of the net only thrice this season, but he’s scored his goals against the might of Manchester United, Leicester City and Chelsea. Gayle this season has managed 35 shots on target. It’s the conversion rate he needs to work on and he’ll clearly fancy his chances against the Arsenal defence.

In 2017/2018: Minutes played: 735, Goals scored: 3, Assists: 1

TEAM NEWS: For Arsenal, Aaron Ramsey is still out injured. Shkodran Mustafi wasn’t a part of the squad in the last three games but is nearing a return.
